RIDGEFIELD — The city of Ridgefield is accepting applications to fill the Position 1 seat left vacant after Councilor Ron Onslow, who also served as mayor, resigned Jan. 10.

In accordance with state law, the city council has 90 days to fill the open position. The person appointed will serve the remainder of Onslow’s term, which ends Dec. 31.

City council candidates must have lived within city limits for a minimum of one year prior to appointment, be a registered voter and be willing to serve on the council until the 2025 election results are certified in December. Candidates will be required to attend and participate in a town hall public forum Feb. 20 and interview with the city council Feb. 27.

Completed applications, including the questionnaire, letter of interest and resume, must be submitted no later than 4:30 p.m. Jan. 29. Applications can be submitted online at https://lf.ridgefieldwa.us/Forms/Council-Application.

Ridgefield residents typically elect city council members to four-year terms while the mayor and mayor pro tem positions are selected by the council members at the first meeting of the year. Because Onslow resigned mid-term, the council will select a new mayor at the Jan. 23 meeting.
