Larry Nelson has been elected as the new president of the NAACP Vancouver chapter.
Nelson will succeed the former president, Yolanda Frazier, following the organization’s 2024 elections, according to a Jan. 4 news release.
Nelson said he plans to focus on strengthening relationships with local law enforcement and addressing community issues as the new president.
“I want to continue to work with our law enforcement agencies and continue to build a working relationship as we address different issues within our community,” Nelson said in the news release. “It’s my honor to build on the past successes of our former president, Yolanda Frazier, and build upon the foundation that was laid by those before me.”
NAACP Vancouver advocates for political, educational, social and economic equality rights for all, eliminating race-based discrimination, and fostering harmony and empowerment within the community, the organization said.
“I look forward to collaborating with other BIPOC communities to leverage resources to continue to fight for equality moving forward,” Nelson said.
