Prep Roundup: Seton Catholic girls basketball turns away tough King’s Way to stay perfect in Trico League

Jamison McCann sets school record with 46 points for Ridgefield boys

The thing about rivalry games is they’re never easy.

So even when Seton Catholic girls basketball staked an early lead over King’s Way Christian on Wednesday, there was much work left to do.

Seton Catholic won 40-35, turning back a tough test from the host Knights to stay unbeaten in the Class 1A Trico League.

Tiffany Sheldon scored 15 points and Riley Seymer added 10 points for the Cougars (7-6, 7-0).

King’s Way (8-3, 5-2) clawed out of a 20-12 deficit after the first quarter.

The game was tied in the fourth quarter before Seton pulled away down the stretch. Sheldon had four her team’s nine points in the fourth quarter and Madison Lee hit a key 3-pointer.

Addison Bagley led King’s Way with 18 points and eight rebounds.

Girls basketball

LA CENTER 48, FORT VANCOUVER 25 — Lillian Cosmi scored 12 points, Billie Ross added 10 points and the Wildcats earned a 1A Trico League win on the road.

La Center (6-7, 3-4) outscored the Trappers 13-2 in the second quarter to take a 31-10 lead.

Lillien Smith scored eight points to lead Fort Vancouver (1-12, 0-7).

COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 41, STEVENSON 36 — Hallie Kock and Sara Miller each scored 13 points as the Bruins rallied for a Trico League road win in the Gorge rivalry.

Columbia (9-3, 6-1) trailed 24-18 at halftime after being outscored 15-6 in the second quarter.

Rebecca Townsend scored 15 points and Aria Obias added 12 points on four 3-pointers for Stevenson (2-10, 1-6).

KALAMA 45, CASTLE ROCK 36 — Hannah Johnson had 23 points, 11 rebounds and five steals as the Chinooks earned a 1A Trico League road win.

Aubrey Doerty added 10 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks for Kalama (6-6, 4-3).

Castle Rock (5-8, 2-5) couldn’t recover after falling behind 15-6 after one quarter and 24-12 at halftime. Dakota Davis led the Rockets with 12 points.

Boys basketball

RIDGEFIELD 84, HUDSON’S BAY 36 — Jamison McCann set a single-game school record with 46 points as the Spudders rolled to a 2A Greater St. Helens League road win.

McCann made 15 field goals, four 3-pointers and had 44 points through three quarters. He broke the previous record of 43 points set by Drew Bleth in 2005.

Jack Hughes added 12 points for Ridgefield (9-4, 5-2).

Luke Hossom scored 10 points to lead Hudson’s Bay (0-11, 0-7).

COLUMBIA RIVER 87, WOODLAND 22 — Ari Richardson scored 18 points, Aaron Hoey added 14 points and the Rapids rolled to a 2A GSHL home win.

Columbia River (11-2, 6-1) outscored Woodland 19-2 ih the second quarter to take a 45-12 lead into halftime.

R.A. LONG 69, MARK MORRIS 58 – The Lumberjacks used a big rally early in the third quarter to win against their Longview rivals and stay atop the 2A GSHL.

R.A. Long (12-1, 6-1) stretched a 31-26 halftime lead to 48-30 late in the third. The Monarchs (11-2, 5-2) battled within 49-40 entering the fourth quarter but could not extend the rally.

The Lumberjacks are tied with Columbia River atop the 2A GSHL.

Stars of the day

  • Chloe Shove, Evergreen girls bowling, rolled 146-203 for the high score in an 1865-1360 win over Union.
  • Arianna Long, Kelso girls bowling, rolled 214-152 for the high score in a 1798-1640 win over Prairie.
  • Allison Oulette, Hudson’s Bay girls bowling, rolled 157-214 for the high score in a 2025-1748 win over Ridgefield.
  • Matthew Scott and Connor Davis, Woodland boys wrestling, both earned second-period pins at 106 and 113 pounds, respectively, as the Beavers edged Ridgefield 39-36 in a 2A GSHL dual meet.
  • Owen Robertson, Union boys swimming, won the 200 yard IM, the 200 butterfly and was on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams as Union rolled over five other schools in a meet at Mark Morris High.
