Winterhawks rally late for 4-3 shootout win at Saskatoon

The Portland Winterhawks staged a stunning third-period comeback before clinching a 4-3 shootout victory over the Saskatoon Blades in Western Hockey League action Wednesday night at SaskTel Centre.

Tyson Jugnauth and Kyle Chyzowski scored in the shootout for Portland (24-15-2-1), while goalie Ondřej Štěbeták denied two Blades attempts to secure the two points.

The Blades (22-14-2-3), the top team in the East Division of the Eastern Conference, extended their with a power-play goal 4:06 into the second period to make it 3-1.

Tyson Jugnauth brought Portland within one, netting an unassisted power-play goal with 4:33 to play in the third period, and Ryan Miller followed just under two minutes later to tie the game with 2:42 to play.

  • Chyzowski added an assist to the scoresheet for 69 points on the season (30 goals, 39 assists) and the WHL scoring lead.
  • Jugnauth has points in 15 of his last 16 games.
