Two Clark County school districts received Washington Department of Commerce grants for energy efficiency retrofits in public buildings.
The Hockinson and Washougal school districts received $427,474 and $623,942, respectively, according to a commerce news release.
Commerce awarded 26 grants totaling $14.3 million through the Energy Efficiency Retrofits for Public Buildings Grants program. According to the news release, the grants aim to reduce emissions, enhance building occupants’ comfort, and improve cost-efficient public building operations for existing facilities and other energy-saving projects that lower operational costs.
Local governments, public higher education institutions, school districts, federally recognized tribal governments and state agencies were eligible to be awarded a grant through the program. K-12 public school districts received 40 percent of the funding.
The funding for the grants comes from the Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 5949.
