Washington’s beverage industry evolves as people seek nonalcoholic drinks

Dry January part of trend toward healthier options

Growing participation in Dry January — when people abstain from alcohol after drinking heavily over the holidays — has put pressure on the beverage industry to evolve.

“There’s a clear shift in drinking habits, and it’s moving toward what I would call drinking occasions, which now include low-alcohol or no-alcohol products,” said Jesse Ferber, chief strategy officer for Columbia Distributing.
