Mt. Hood Meadows is commemorating the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday on Monday, Jan. 20 with a special Rotary Night event.
A portion of the proceeds sold from 3 p.m. to close on Monday will benefit the Rotary Club of Hood River.
Tickets can be purchased anytime through Monday for the night evening event. Columbia Area Transit’s Gorge-To-Mountain Express bus that connects Hood River to Meadows will be operating on Monday for this event. Cost to ride is $5 roundtrip.
The Hood River Rotary Club, established in 1927, is a community service club whose motto is “Service Above Self.” The organization annually sponsors 12 to 15 scholarships to Hood River County students and also host improvement projects to Hood River parks, libraries, gardens, as well as road clean-up and volunteer work at the local food bank.
Mountain forecast
At Meadows and Timberline, the weekend forecast calls for clear skies with highs in the upper 20s. However, an east wind of 10 to 13 mph is forecasted for Saturday through Monday.
Mostly sunny skies will remain through next week, with high temperatures climbing into the low to mid 30s.
Lower at Government Camp, the wind will be lower, just 3 to 5 mph, but the high temperatures are forecasted in the mid to upper 30s.
On the MLK Holiday on Monday, Mt. Hood SkiBowl will be in operation from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Safety weekend coming to Mt. Bachelor
Mt. Bachelor in Central Oregon is planning Safety Weekend for Jan. 25-26.
The two-day event will bring awareness and education about proper safe codes and procedures on the slopes.
Schedule events include morning slopeside stretches, avalanche dog demonstrations, timberline mountain guides and a National Ski Patrol Education tent.
