LONGVIEW — A train derailed near the Port of Kalama on Thursday morning.

Dan Polacek, legislative and public relations administrator for the port, said the incident occurred about 3:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Hendrickson Drive, just south of Ahles Point.

He said six to seven cars were involved, with one car completely coming off the tracks. The cars were hauling grain and headed to the TEMCO grain elevator.

According to Polacek, the cause of the derailment is under investigation by BNSF Railway, which owns the tracks, as well as TEMCO. The cleanup was expected to take two days and include repair work on the track.

Troy Brightbill, chief criminal deputy of the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office, said no injuries were reported.

Hendrickson Drive is tentatively scheduled to reopen Saturday.
