Clark College Roundup: Men’s basketball runs win streak to three

Men’s Basketball

RECORD: 11-5, 3-1, tied 1st in NWAC South.

Clark extended its winning streak to three games with a hard-fought 82-73 win over Umpqua on Saturday at O’Connell Sports Center.

Trailing 41-36 at halftime, the Penguins surged behind Theo McMillan (Camas HS), who scored 14 of his game-high 23 points in the second half.

Jackson Esary (Kalama HS) added 18 points as Clark handed Umpqua just its third loss this season.

Esary led the way with 23 points on Wednesday as Clark rolled to a 77-65 win over Mt Hood.

It was another strong second half as the Penguins outscored the Saints 42-20.

Terrell Moorer Jr. had 14 of his 16 points in the second half and Clark held Mt. Hood to 24.1% shooting from the field after halftime.

THIS WEEK: The Penguins host Portland (10-7, 3-2) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. then hit to road to face Southwestern Oregon (13-4, 2-2) on Saturday.

Women’s Basketball

RECORD: 9-8, 1-3, 6th in NWAC South.

The Penguins took unbeaten Umpqua to overtime before falling short 93-86 on Saturday at O’Connell Sports Center.

Clark led 78-76 with the ball with 20 seconds left in regulation. But Umpqua forced a turnover and tied the game on a close-range shot with 11 seconds to play.

Yasmine Woodard came off the bench to score 21 points to lead all Clark scorers. Jayda Jackson added 17 points and Mia Hicks-Oliver scored 15 points as five Penguins scored in double-figures.

Saturday’s loss came after the Penguins rolled to a 100-52 win over Mt. Hood on Wednesday. Emily Peabody scored 19 points and Jayda Jackson had 18 poins and eight steals.

Peabody, as 5-foot-8 freshman from Spokane, leads the Penguins with 14.4 points per game.

THIS WEEK: The Penguins host Portland (10-8, 3-2)on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. then hit to road to face Southwestern Oregon (4-11, 0-4) on Saturday.
