Prep Roundup: Mark Morris boys ride defense to win over Evergreen at MLK Classic

Camas girls fall against 14-4 North Thurston

Dalton Stevens scored 21 points as Mark Morris boys basketball used stingy defense in the first half to beat Evergreen 64-41 on Monday at the MLK Classic in Longview.

Evergreen (4-11) was held to four field goals in the first half and trailed 24-11 at halftime.

Drew Ibaretta and Carson Bogner each scored 13 points for Mark Morris (13-2).

Dez Daniel scored 19 points and Darren Schmitt added 14 points for the Plainsmen.

Boys basketball

SKYVIEW 73, BOTHELL 52 — The Storm used a strong first half to roll to a non-league win at home.

Skyview (11-4) led 23-13 after the first quarter and 44-23 at halftime.

Malakai Weimer scored 19 points and Ryan Hanson added 14 points for the Storm, who hit 10 3-pointers.

UNION 63, WASHOUGAL 34 The Titans rode a solid defensive effort to a non-league home win.

Union (11-4) held the Panthers to nine field goals, five of which were 3-pointers.

Noah Jones and Nick Burchett each scored 10 points to lead the balanced Titans offense.

Girls basketball

NORTH THURSTON 53, CAMAS 42 — Cold shooting from outside hurt the Papermakers in a loss at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma.

Camas (13-3) shot 30 percent from the field, including 7 for 34 from 3-point range. The Papermakers were in a hole early, trailing 11-2 after one quarter and 28-16 at halftime.

Keirra Thompson led Camas with 13 points. Baylie Farra added 11 points and Sophie Buz-zard chipped in 10 points.

Shayla Cordis scored 21 points to lead North Thurston, which improved to 14-1.

KELSO 73, HOCKINSON 27 — Bregan Ruhland scored 16 points to lead the Lassies to a win at the MLK Classic in Longview.

Peyton Champagne added 12 points and Eleanor Treadway chipped in 10 points for Kelso (6-7).

Dannika Grant scored 11 points to lead Hockinson (1-13).

KALAMA 48, BATTLE GROUND 27 — Aubrey Doerty scored 16 points as the Chinooks earned a win at the MLK Classic in Longview.

Hannah Johnson added 12 points and a team-high seven steals to key a strong defensive effort for Kalama (8-6).

Claire Clark scored seven points to lead Battle Ground (5-12).
