Prep Roundup: Union gymnastics earns back-to-back wins

Carly Christ was the all-around champion leading Union gymnastics to victory in a meet with Camas, Skyview and Fort Vancouver on Saturday.

Natalia Warren placed second in the all-around as Union won for the second consecutive week at Naydenov Gymnastics. The Titans also triumphed at WinterFest last weekend.

Last season, Christ placed eighth in all-around and third in a balance beam at the Class 4A state championships. Saturday, the junior won the vault (9.400) and the bars (8.950).

Christ placed second in the floor exercise and fourth on the beam for an all-around score of 36.650.

Warren won the floor (9.400) and placed second in the beam (9.400), bars (8.550) and vault (8.700). Her all-around score was 0.6 points behind Christ.

Maya Richardson of Camas won the beam (9.500).

Union’s team score of 166.000 put the Titans ahead of Camas (162.360) and Skyview (149.250).

At WinterFest, Union scored 174.70 points to beat Camas for the first time in at least eight years.

Chenette paces Columbia River

Macey Chenette won the all-around title to lead Columbia River to victory in a meet with Prairie, Mountain View and Ridgefield at Naydenov.

Chenette won the floor exercise (9.400) and placed third in the vault and bars. Her overall score of 34.700 was one-tenth of a point ahead of teammate Sloan Atkins, who won the bars (8.600) and placed second on beam.

Abigail Mendoza won the vault (9.450) and Danica Wyenberg won the beam (8.950) for Prairie, which finished second in the team race.

Girls basketball

SETON CATHOLIC 35, JESUIT (Ore.) 33 — The Cougars extended their win streak to 10 games with a standout defensive effort.

After winning nine consecutive 1A Trico League games Seton Catholic (9-6) hosted an Oregon Class 6A team.

The Cougars led 31-20 after three quarters before holding on down the stretch over Jesuit (8-7).

EATONVILLE 75, R.A. LONG 37 — Alauna Brown scored 27 points and hit six 3-pointers but the Lumberjills (5-10) couldn’t keep pace on the road.

Stars of the day

  • Braydon Johnson, Fort Vancouver boys swimming, won the 200 free, 500 free and was on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relay teams as the Trappers won a meet with Mark Morris, Columbia River, Hudson’s Bay and R.A. Long in Longview.
