Both the Clark College women’s and men’s basketball teams rebounded from midweek losses with victories Saturday in Coos Bay, Ore.

The win was big for the Penguin women, who had lost five of their past six games. Clark hopes it can get hot in the final month of the Northwest Athletic Conference season.

Women’s Basketball

RECORD: 10-10, 2-5, 7th in NWAC South.

The Penguins snapped a three-game skid with a 84-53 road win over Southwestern Oregon on Saturday.

The lopsided win was a relief for Clark, which had lost its prior three games by single-digits.

Five Penguins scored in double-figures, led by 17th points from Emily Peabody. The freshman from Spokane is averaging 14.3 points a game to share the team scoring lead with Mia Hicks-Oliver.

Saturday’s win came after the Penguins fell to Portland 60-57 on Wednesday.

Ella Botnar’s 3-pointer tied the game 56-56 with 40 seconds left. Clark had a shot to tie in the final seconds but Jayda Jackson’s 3-point attempt was off the mark.

THIS WEEK: The Penguins hit the road to face Chemeketa (14-6, 3-4) on Wednesday before returning home to face a formidable foe in Lane (20-0, 7-0) at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Men’s Basketball

After seeing its four-game win streak snapped, Clark rebounded Saturday with a 69-60 road win over Southwestern Oregon.

Beau Swett scored a team-high 21 points along with seven rebounds. The sophomore guard from Woodland tallied a season-high in points while making his 12th consecutive start.

Jackson Esary and Terrell Moorer Jr. each added 14 points as the Penguins beat a Southwestern Oregon team that entered the weekend 14-5.

The win came after Clark suffered a 89-70 home loss on Portland on Wednesday. The Panthers outscored the Penguins 50-33 in the second half to break open a close game.

Anthony Sprauer led Clark with 19 points in just 22 minutes on 8 for 12 shooting.

THIS WEEK: The Penguins travel to face Chemeketa (7-12, 2-4) on Wednesday then return home for a crucial game against Lane (14-4, 5-2) on Saturday at 4 p.m.
