Prep Roundup: Evergreen boys edge Heritage, 64-62, for first 3A GSHL win

Plainsmen will celebrate 1995 state champs at Friday game

Dez Daniel scored 28 points as Evergreen edged Heritage 64-62 for its first win in 3A Greater St. Helens League play.

Kai Speer added 18 points, including a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:30 to play. Daniel took a charge on Heritage’s next possession, setting up another Speer basket to put Evergreen ahead 63-59.

Daniel shot 9 for 11 from the free throw line and made three 3-pointers.

Evergreen (5-12, 1-4) avenged a 76-60 loss to Heritage on Jan. 10. The Plainsmen had lost their last three league games by no more than five points.

Tyrell Cash scored 29 points for Heritage (7-10, 3-3). Jose Zacharias added 14 points and Brooks Greenwald scored 11 points, including a half-court shot at the end of the game.

Evergreen’s next game Friday against league-leading Mountain View will include a celebration and reunion of the 1995 state championship team.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 55, KELSO 42 — Malcolm Weatherspoon scored 19 points as a big second half to send the Thunder to a 3A GSHL road win.

Kelso jumped out to an 18-8 lead after the first quarter. Mountain View cut the deficit to 18-7 with a 9-0 second quarter. The Thunder pulled away with a 20-9 fourth quarter.

Luke Swerdlik and Jack Fournier added 11 points for Mountain View. Triton Hagdahl-Daniel led Kelso with nine points.

Girls basketball

MOUNTAIN VIEW 61, KELSO 35 — Jadlyn Senderson scored 15 points and made three of her team’s nine 3-pointers in a 3A GSHL road win.

Sveva Bernasconi added 13 points for Mountain View (11-7, 6-0). Layla Senderson scored 11 points and also made three 3-pointers.

Kelso (8-8, 3-3) was held scoreless in the first quarter and trailed 25-7 at halftime.

EVERGREEN 58, HERITAGE 33 — Courtney Neal scored 17 points and Camryn Holt scored 11 points to lead Evergreen to a 3A GSHL win. Jaila Ellis led Heritage with 21 points.

MARK MORRIS 46, COLUMBIA RIVER 42 — The host Monarchs used a solid defensive effort to hand the Rapids their first loss of the 2A GSHL season.

Kadence Gorans had 12 points and Resse Johnston added 10 points for Mark Morris (11-6, 7-4).

Gracie Glavin scored 13 points and Mikayla King added 10 points for Columbia River (15-2, 10-1).

The Rapids and Woodland are now tied atop the 2A GSHL. Each has three games remaining, including a clash at River on Feb. 6 to end the regular season.

WOODLAND 67, WASHOUGAL 29 — Kennedy Bockert had 32 points and 18 rebounds in three quarters as the Beavers rolled to a 2A GSHL home win.

Bockert, a 6-foot sophomore made 12 field goals and was 8 for 8 at the foul line.

Addi Stading added 10 points for Woodland (14-4, 10-1).

Riley Vaughan scored nine points for Washougal (6-9, 5-6).

RIDGEFIELD 65, HOCKINSON 44 — Madison Ingham scored 16 points and the fast-starting Spudders earned a 2A GSHL road win.

Ridgefield (6-11, 6-5) scored 22 points in each of the first two quarters to lead 44-15 at halftime.

Dannika Grant scored 16 points for Hockinson (2-15, 2-9). Lyla Taylor added 13 points and eight rebounds.

R.A. LONG 52, HUDSON’S BAY 5 — Evelyn Ofstun had 15 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Lumberjills to a 2A GSHL road win.

Alauna Brown added 15 points and eight rebounds for R.A. Long (6-11, 4-7).

KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 47, KALAMA 41, OT — Bridget Quinn scored five of her 18 points in overtime as the Knights earned a road win.

Quinn hit four 3-pointers as King’s Way (12-3, 9-2) solidified its hold on second place in the 1A Trico League. The Knights are two games ahead of third-place Kalama and Columbia-White Salmon with two to play.

Addison Bagley had 10 points and 16 rebounds for the Knights, who made 8 of 10 free throws in overtime.

For Kalama, Aubrey Doerty had 22 points and Hannah Johnston had a double double (10 points, 16 rebounds).

The Chinooks trailed 19-9 at halftime but fought back and had a potential game-winning shot rim out at the end of regulation.

STEVENSON 45, LA CENTER 37 — Rebecca Townsend scored 17 points and the Bulldogs earned a 1A Trico League road win.

Aria Obias added 11 points for Stevenson (4-12, 3-8), which has won two of its last three games.

Billie Ross scored 15 points to lead La Center (6-11, 3-8).

Stevenson outscored La Center 14-6 in the third quarter to break a 22-22 halftime deadlock.

Stars of the day

  • Bella Hewes, Prairie girls bowling, rolled 192-181 for the highest score in a 1734-1667 win over Ridgefield.
