Letter: Reject Ridgefield school levies

By Paul Bonneau, Ridgefield
Published: January 29, 2025, 6:00am

I’m opposed to the tax that Ridgefield School District has placed on the Feb. 11 ballot.

I want to ask, who is responsible for these children? Of course, it is their parents. Why then, must we tolerate them raiding our pocketbooks with this tax hike when we have no children, or have them in private school, or homeschool them, or just don’t like the things being taught in government schools? Is it fair that we have to support other people’s children, when they don’t have to support ours? Homeschoolers, for example, take not a penny from taxpayers, yet turn out a better-educated student. Must we support mediocrity?

How many people are aware the previous Ridgefield school superintendent was paid $544,334 in his last year? When is enough, enough? Vote “no.” Let parents fund their children on their own dime or through volunteer efforts.
