I am saddened every time I see a local business close. Recently, that has included: restaurants, craft stores, grocery stores, discount stores and I am sure there are others I have missed. I am saddened because of the loss of jobs and the impact on local families. There is also loss of revenue to the community. Homelessness is a crisis in the community, but further job loss may be adding to the problem.
Sure, shopping online is easy and you can sit back and wait for your package to come to the door. But it is the lack of customers in local businesses that has led to the closings. Little, if any, of monies from online transactions stay in the community.
Shop local merchants when possible. Even shopping a local big-box store contributes more to the community than online shopping. I, for one, avoid shopping online when at all possible.
