A 21-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon at Jaggy Road Park in central Vancouver. Police said they arrested the suspected shooter nearby.

Machou M. Machou, 23, was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder. He will make a first appearance in court Thursday afternoon.

Vancouver police responded just before 4:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting at the park in the 4500 block of Northeast 72nd Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers found a man dead at the park, and within a few minutes, detained a man who matched the shooter’s description, later identified as Machou, according to a police department news release. Police do not believe there is a current threat to the public.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

Detectives from the Vancouver Police Department Major Crimes Unit are continuing to investigate.
