Prep roundup (Jan. 31): Malakai Weimer sets school record for career rebounds as Skyview boys beat Battle Ground

Malakai Weimer scored 16 points and broke the Skyview school record for career rebounds as the Storm clinched a berth in the 4A bi-district tournament with a 79-56 win over Battle Ground on Friday.

Weimer pulled down his 576^th career rebound at the end of the second quarter to pass Kyle Gruhler for the career mark.

The Storm (13-6, 4-3 4A GSHL) had four other players score in double figures — Tycen Haij (14), Zeno Calastas (12), Gavin Packer (11) and Ryan Hanson (10).

James Gill had 13 points and Collin McGowan had 11 to lead Battle Ground.

EVERGREEN 58, MOUNTAIN VIEW 56 — The Plainsmen kept their postseason dreams alive by holding off the Thunder’s fourth-quarter push and deny Mountain View its first shot at a share of the 3A GSHL title.

Mountain View’s double-digit comeback happened in the fourth quarter behind the play of Malcolm Weatherspoon (12 points) when it cut Evergreen’s lead to 54-48 with 2:13 to go. Weatherspoon had nine of his 12 points in the fourth. Then, Trey Johnson’s corner 3 with 17.1 seconds left made it a one-point game at 56-55.

Dez Daniel led Evergreen with 19 points and is two points away from 1,000 for his career. Kai Speer added 15.

At halftime, Evergreen celebrated its 1995 undefeated state championship team. Most players and coaches were in attendance from the 26-0 team that also won an academic state championship, including Hall of Fame head coach John Triplett.

PRAIRIE 80, HERITAGE 59 — Carson Morningstar hit 14 of 14 free throws and scored 34 points to help Prairie move into sole possession of first place in the 3A Greater St. Helens League.

Malachi Patton scored 16 points and Ben Nkansah added 15 for the Falcons (12-6, 5-1).

Tyrell Cash had 17 points to lead Heritage (7-11, 3-4).

COLUMBIA RIVER 97, HUDSON’S BAY 31 — Aaron Hoey had 23 points and Ari Richardson scored 21 as River kept pace to secure at least the No. 3 seed to the district playoffs.

Alex Pont added 13 for the Rapids. Jaxen Appelt had 10 points to lead Bay.

R.A. LONG 71, WOODLAND 40 — Joshua Crane scored 20 points and Rhet Young had 17 points to help the Lumberjacks maintain its one-game lead atop the 2A Greater St. Helens League.

James Long had 13 points to lead Woodland.

RIDGEFIELD 69, WASHOUGAL 54 — Jamison McCann hit six 3-pointers, including three in a pivotal third quarter, to finish with 34 points to lead the Spudders.

Washougal led 29-26 at halftime before Ridgefield surge ahead 50-39 after the third quarter.

Jack Hughes scored 18 points and Henry Wikstrom had 10 for the Spudders (12-6, 8-4).

Jackson Multanen had 17 points and Coleman Multanen added 13 for Washougal.

SETON CATHOLIC 93, KALAMA 54 — Brady Angelo hit 9 3-pointers, including seven in the third quarter alone, to score 37 points to lead the Cougars.

Kaiden Wilson scored 18 points and Ben Deochand had 10 for Seton, which hit 18 3-pointers as a team.

Abel Koski led Kalama with 20 points, and Quin Hahn had 14.

LA CENTER 53, KING’S WAY CHRISTIAN 48 — Logan Rainey and Jayce Grotte each scored 14 points as La Center took a big step toward locking down the No. 3 seed to the 1A district playoffs.

Jackson Lovato had 23 points for King’s Way, which saw its playoff hopes take a big hit. The Knights (12-5, 5-6 Trico) are in sole possession of fourth place, but they finish league play with two games against first-place Seton Catholic and one against second-place Fort Vancouver.

FORT VANCOUVER 93, COLUMBIA-WHITE SALMON 54 — Isaiah Barajas hit five 3-pointers and scored 24 points as the Trappers locked up the No. 2 seed to the 1A district playoffs.

Leighton Livengood and Josiah Jointer added 17 points each for the Trappers (15-4, 10-2), while Liam Cvitkovich scored 12.

Columbia got 36 points from Mason Hamilton.

SKYVIEW 70, BATTLE GROUND 36 — Cameron Watson scored 19 points and Lainey Phillips had 18 points to lead the Storm to a 4A Greater St. Helens League win.
