Snow could be coming to Clark County as soon as Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
Rain and snow are expected Saturday through Monday. Snow showers forecasted for Tuesday could continue throughout the work week, according to Lee Picard, lead metrologist in the National Weather Service’s Portland office.
Although snow isn’t expected to stick in Portland, it’s slightly more likely to accumulate in the lowlands of Clark County, Picard said. Snow could stick to valley floors before warming up in the daytime, he said.
“It’s going to be in this kind of back-and-forth pattern,” he said.
The snowy forecast comes after a dry spell.
In mid-January last year, Clark County experienced an ice storm that resulted in power outages and dangerous road conditions.
“The dry streak we just had was a little more unusual,” Picard said. “We might be a bit overdue (for snow) actually.”
It’s possible that wet spots in the evening may become slick overnight, especially starting Monday. Picard advises caution while driving. He encourages drivers to leave room between cars and to be prepared for slick spots.
Vancouver’s low temperatures will hover around 30 degrees, with highs around 40 degrees over the weekend.
But much of next week’s weather is up in the air. Picard recommends watching forecasts carefully for any changes that could affect commutes.
“Every degree makes a difference,” he said.
