WASHOUGAL — Washougal School District students and staff celebrated Career and Technical Education Month in February.
This year, the month includes hands-on projects, competitions and collaborative projects that combine career and technical education skills with classroom learning, as well as projects for younger students taught by high school students.
The Washougal High School drama and choir programs joined with the culinary arts program to present “Everybody Goes to Rick’s” on Friday at the district’s second dinner theater featuring a three-course dinner prepared by students.
The Panther ’Shoug Shack, a student-run food truck, opened for students during lunch Feb. 21. The menu was served by advanced culinary students in partnership with Culinary Services staff.
Washougal High School Woods Technology students visited each Washougal elementary school to do a project with fifth grade students. High school students created kits that fifth graders used to build a toolbox, provided safety training and equipment, and assisted students with the building project.
SkillsUSA students demonstrated hands-on technical skills and showcased leadership through these competitions in events including welding, construction, cabinetry, leadership and plumbing. Washougal co-hosted the carpentry event with Hockinson High School at the new pre-electrical building for Cascadia Technical Academy in Ridgefield.
Future Business Leaders of America students showcased business skills including public speaking, journalism, ethics and supply chain management. All of the Future Business Leaders of America students who competed at the regional event qualified for the state-level competitions in Bellevue in April.
