RICHLAND — Here’s the thing about Mustangs. They like to run.

Prosser broke loose to score the first 22 points of the fourth quarter as the Mustangs ran away from Ridgefield 83-57 in a Class 2A boys basketball state opening round game Saturday at Richland High School.

The loss ended the Spudders’ season at 15-9.

But the lopsided final score obscured the fact that this was a close battle for three quarters.

Prosser came out hot, knocking down five 3-pointers in the first quarter to take a 28-9 lead.

But the Spudders used some defensive energy to create transition baskets that rallied them to within one point of Pasco in the second quarter.

The Mustangs eventually took a 37-35 lead into halftime.

Drew Krsul’s basket to open the third quarter tied the game at 37-37 before the Mustangs ran off 10 straight points.

Ridgefield again fought back to within six before Prosser led 57-50 after three quarters.

Then Prosser ran away with the game. The Mustangs’ 22-point run gave them a 79-50 lead to put the game away.

Jamison McCann had 22 points to lead the Spudders.
