Matt Hamlin has been hired to succeed Steve Kizer as the head football coach in Skyview High School, athletic director Julian Williams announced Tuesday.
Hamlin becomes the fourth football head coach in Skyview school history, following Dave Armstrong (1998-2002), Jim Hellyer (2003) and Kizer (2004-2024).
“A longtime staple of Skyview football, Coach Hamlin brings nearly two decades of experience, passion and dedication to the gram as he steps into this leadership role,” Williams said.
Hamlin began his coaching career as the freshman/sophomore coach in 2004 at La Salle High School.
He joined Kizer’s staff at Skyview in 2005. Over his tenure, he coached the wide receivers before becoming the team’s offensive coordinator from 2014-2023. Last season, he took on the role as assistant head coach.
Born and raised in Walla Walla, Hamlin was a multi-sport athlete at Walla Walla High School, competing in football, baseball and basketball. He was a member of the 1999 state championship basketball team.
Hamlin played receiver at Eastern Oregon University from 1999 to 2003.
Hamlin is married to Stephanie Hamlin, a teacher at Lake Shore Elementary School.
The Hamlins’ older son Kaden Hamlin is a senior at Skyview and was an All-Region linebacker for the Storm this past season. He is headed to Western Oregon University to continue his football career. Their younger son, Carter, is an eighth grader at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.
“With Coach Hamlin at the helm, the Storm football program is in great hands,” Williams said. “His experience, leadership and commitment to the Skyview family will continue to push the team to excellence on and off the field.”
