2A boys state basketball: Mark Morris rallies past Sequim to set up rematch with R.A. Long

Dalton Stevens scores 30 points in 69-59 win in Round of 12

Mark Morris rallied for a 69-59 win over Sequim in the Round of 12 of the Class 2A boys basketball state tournament Wednesday, setting up a clash with rival R.A. Long in the quarterfinals.

The No. 8 seed Monarchs (21-5) will face the No. 2 seed Lumberjacks (23-1) at 2 p.m. Thursday in Yakima.

R.A. Long has gone 3-0 against Mark Morris this season, winning 69-58 and 58-52 in the regular season and 57-52 in the District 4 championship game.

Mark Morris trailed 47-36 after No. 9 seed Sequim began the second half on a 13-2 run. But the Monarchs clawed back, eventually taking a 52-51 lead on Dalton Stevens’ basket early in the fourth quarter.

Mark Morris pulled away from there, outscoring Sequim 21-8 in the fourth quarter of the loser-out game.

Stevens led Mark Morris with 30 points and 13 rebounds. The 6-foot-3 senior forward shot 12 for 20 from the field and also had three blocks.

MARK MORRIS (21-5) — Dalton Stevens 30, Drew Ibarreta 5, Nathan Stephens 7, Mark Hendrickson 5, Jadyn Brooks 13, Carson Bogner 7, Mac West 2. Totals 25 (4) 15-22.
