YAKIMA — Searchers have found the wreckage of a small plane that crashed near Whiskey Dick Mountain in Kittitas County.

The pilot died in the crash, information from the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Cessna A150L departed from Yakima Air Terminal-McAllister Field at 3:43 p.m. Tuesday for the Lake Chelan Airport. A family member reported the plane missing when it did not arrive, officials from Washington State Department of Transportation said in a news release.

The crash site was located shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday with the assistance of a Life Flight helicopter, officials said. A U.S. Army helicopter from the Yakima Training Center along with search crews from the Chelan, Grant and Douglas County sheriff’s offices assisted.

“Sheriff (Clay) Myers and the Kittitas County community offer condolences to the family of the pilot and appreciation for the efforts of everyone who assisted in this search,” a statement from the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office said.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.
