Following several early March showers, our weather reliably transitions to fair conditions; the sun shines brightly most days and the refreshing absence of rain is a welcome change. This will last through the weekend and perhaps Monday as well. Highs will be seasonable today and Friday, then a few degrees above average over the weekend. What is normal, you say? Our average high today is 55 degrees and the low is 37 degrees. On Wednesday, we had a low in Vancouver at 37 degrees, right on target.
Checking statistics for the first days of the month, Vancouver is running nearly four degrees above average in temperatures and about one half-inch of rain below normal. We anticipate a shift in the weather pattern beginning early next week.
March’s typical blustery conditions will arrive with lower snow levels due to colder weather systems originating in the Gulf of Alaska. It will be cool with periods of rain. Thunder and hail could be part of the mix. I don’t see any lowland snow at this time, but we’ll see how the pattern evolves later next week and beyond. The spring bulb flowers will feel the chill and the earthworms will shift a little deeper into the soil. Sorry, robins.
If it makes you feel better or raises a chuckle, either way, I removed my winter tires this week and washed my car in anticipation of a few dry days. It should be great weather for enjoying some winter activities in the Cascades or walking along the ocean beaches. Get out and enjoy it before March throws its gloomy side upon us.
