R.A. Long capped its season with a 68-61 win over Selah in the third-place game at the 2A boys basketball state tournament Saturday in Yakima, matching the program’s best finish.

R.A. Long also placed third at state back in 1939.

The Lumberjacks jumped out to an early lead before taking a 30-26 advantage into halftime.

R.A. Long pushed its lead to 39-33 midway through the third quarter before Selah stormed back to cut the Jacks’ lead to 44-43 after three quarters.

It was a one-possession game the rest of the way until Cam Newsome hit a 3-pointer with 2:30 to play to put R.A. Long up 53-48.

Payton Thill hit another 3 to put R.A. Long up 59-50 with 1:30 left.

From there, it was a free-throw game, with the Lumberjacks salting the game away.
