‘Prime real estate’: Vancouver developer pushing forward with plans for Who Song & Larry’s site

Plans are nearly finished for a four-building mixed-use development just east of the Interstate 5 Bridge along the Columbia River, according to the project’s developer.

Vancouver-based Kirkland Development bought the waterfront property — home to Who Song & Larry’s Restaurant & Cantina and Joe’s Crab Shack, which closed in 2020 — in 2021 but had been eyeing it since 2018.

City closes sound wall homeless camp along Mill Plain in west Vancouver

City of Vancouver workers erected a sign that declared “Property Closed to Camping” as they cleared tents Wednesday morning along West Mill Plain Boulevard.

Neighbors in the Hough neighborhood had complained for almost a year about the so-called “sound wall camp,” which grew to about 50 people in recent months. The city last month ordered the camp’s removal.

Vancouver police arrest suspect in central Vancouver shooting that injured one

Vancouver police arrested a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy who they say exchanged gunfire Tuesday afternoon in central Vancouver, leaving the boy with a gunshot wound not considered life threatening.

The man, identified by police as Fnj Kenneth, is scheduled to make a first court appearance this afternoon in Clark County Superior Court. He is facing allegations of first-degree assault and drive-by shooting.

State finds La Center School District discriminates against students based on gender identity

A state investigation found the La Center School District discriminated against students and staff based on gender identity by prohibiting teachers from asking students which pronouns they prefer.

On April 7, 2023, the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction opened an investigation into a complaint from La Center High School teacher Minna Thayer, according to the agency’s Feb. 26 letter to Peter Rosenkranz, La Center’s superintendent.
