The Clark College men’s basketball saw its season end with an 82-79 overtime loss to Treasure Valley in the first round of the Northwest Athletic Conference tournament last Friday in Pasco.
In a close game throughout, Clark tied the score at 73 on Beau Swett’s 3-pointer with 26 seconds left in regulation.
The Penguins, however, went cold in overtime going 2 for 7 from the field. Jackson Esary’s lay-up pulled Clark within 81-79 with 50 seconds to play. Treasure Valley got two offensive rebounds on its next possession, forcing the Penguins to foul with 15 seconds left.
After Treasure Valley made one of two free throws, Clark missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer on its final possession.
Esary, a sophomore from Kalama High, scored 28 points and Terrell Moorer added 16 points for the Penguins.
Clark (20-9) made the playoffs for the first time since 2017 after finishing tied with Portland atop the NWAC South.
Baseball
Record: 3-3.
Last week: Clark traveled to Twin Falls, Idaho for a pair of doubleheaders against the College of Southern Idaho on Friday and Saturday. Clark went 1-3 on the trip, winning the Friday opener 5-4. Quentin Anguay went 3-for-3 and hit a game-tying solo homer in the top of the seventh. Rylan Taguchi hit a go-ahead RBI single later in the inning.
The Penguins dropped the nightcap 3-1 despite solid pitching. Luke Woolcott allowed four hits over five inning and Tyler Ramelli pitched three innings of scoreless relief.
Southern Idaho won both games on Saturday, 9-1 and 12-4.
This week: The Penguins host Treasure Valley for a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday. Games are scheduled for noon at 3 p.m. both days at Kindsfather Field.
Softball
Record: 2-6.
Last week: Clark went 2-2 at the NWAC Preseason Crossover in the Tri-Cites. The Penguins beat Spokane 11-8 and Skagit Valley 10-3 while falling to Edmonds 14-2 and Olympic 16-4.
This week: The Penguins host Clackamas in a doubleheader Thursday starting at 3 p.m. Clark then travels to Salem, Ore. for a doubleheader against Chemeketa on Saturday at noon.
Track and Field
Last week: The Penguins competed at the Electric Forest Open hosted by Lewis & Clark University in Portland. Freshman Koynn Williamdyke won the 400 meters, sophomore Jackson McQuain won the 110 hurdles, Max Ensinger won the 400 hurdles and Nico Valdez won the shot put. The men’s 400 relay team of Williamdyke, McQuain, Ja’Quan Collins and Jaime Ramirez-Ortega was also victorious.
On the women’s side, freshman Sally Gould won the long jump, freshman April Cruz placed second in the triple jump and Jaelyn Saler finished second in the shot put.
This week: The Penguins travel to Eugene, Ore., to compete in the Lane Open on Saturday.
