TACOMA — The Washington State Patrol are seeking witnesses to a fatality crash that unfolded Friday morning in which an SUV fell onto northbound Interstate 5.

The driver of the SUV, a 30-year-old Auburn man, has been arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run/death and felony hit and run/serious injury, the State Patrol announced in a news release.

About 10:15 a.m., the Auburn man was driving on a ramp from northbound I-5 to northbound state Route 599 in King County.

Troopers say the vehicle struck a right-side barrier, then crossed to the left and went over the side of the overpass and landed on the freeway below.

The Auburn man was ejected from the SUV before it went over the side. A second person was ejected and died at the scene and a third person from the same vehicle was seriously injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

After the SUV landed on the freeway, it triggered a wreck with three other vehicles.

“A couple occupants of these vehicles were transported to the hospital with injuries,” the news release reads.

The Auburn man then tried to run from the scene before he was detained by a trooper.

Anyone with information is asked to email WSP Detective John Ford at John.Ford@wsp.a.gov.
