Letter: DH rule ruins baseball

Who in their right mind would think that designated hitter is good for baseball? I do not like the designated hitter rule in Major League Baseball, especially if it’s universal. I’d actually prefer that it not exist at all. Designated hitter ruins baseball.

As long as baseball has been played it has been very simple. As a player you run, catch, throw, maybe pitch, but you always have to bat. In 1973, the American League introduced the designated hitter and that ended up ruining the sport. Make the designated hitters play on the field and go back to having the pitchers bat. That will restore the purity of the sport.
