Prep highlights (March 14): Five-run sixth lifts Ridgefield baseball to win over Battle Ground

Ridgefield scored all five of its runs with two outs in the sixth for a 5-3 victory over Battle Ground in Friday’s non-league baseball game at the Ridgefield Outdoor Recreation Complex.

Battle Ground led 3-0 entering the sixth behind starter James Gill’s nine strikeouts and no hits allowed. After the Tigers went to the bullpen, the Spudders erupted for hits by Liam Ostram, Jared Gottsch, Jake Blankenship and Jacob Lewis as part of the five-run half inning.

Two-fier HRs for Camas’ Wiest

Hayden Wiest hit two home runs to centerfield as part of Camas’ 16-0 five-inning softball win over W.F. West on Friday. Wiest’s first home run — a two-run shot — came in an 11-run second inning for the Papermakers with eight hits. 

In all, Camas belted out 13 hits. 

Stars of the day 

Paityn Mackin, Kelso softball, struck out 12 Woodland batters over 5 innings and also went 2-for-4 with a 3-run home run in Kelso’s 10-6 victory. 

Rafa Baldivieso, Hockinson girls tennis, topped Kelso’s Rain DeLeon 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 in the Hawks’ 4-3 loss to Kelso. Three matches went to a third-set tiebreaker. 

Keaton Lee, Heritage baseball, struck out 7 batters in 3 innings of relief and also went 2-for-4 at the plate in the Timberwolves’ 7-5 non-league win over Columbia-White Salmon. 

Bryce Collins, Kelso baseball, went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs in Kelso’s 12-2 non-league win over River Ridge
