Trader Joe’s recalls 60,000 bottles of sparkling water after reports they could crack

Bottled water sold at Trader Joe’s could break and cut you, prompting a sweeping recall.

The neighborhood grocery store chain is recalling certain bottles of Gerolsteiner Sparkling Natural Mineral Water, citing risk of laceration, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said March 13.

So far, no injuries have been reported, according to the commission.

The affected water bottles were sold at Trader Joe’s stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas between Dec. 27 and Jan. 28, the grocery chain said on its website.

“The issue was identified by research related to bottle breakage during production and potentially affects 1% of bottles in” the affected lot codes, Trader Joe’s said.

In all, about 61,500 bottles are included in the recall, per the CPSC.

The affected lot codes are:

*11/27/2024 L

Customers are advised to stop using any recalled Gerolsteiner sparkling water bottles and return them to the store for a full refund, the CPSC said.

Proof of purchase isn’t required, but customers will need to return the affected bottles to be reimbursed.

Lot codes can be found near the bottom of the product label.
