Reigning Class 2A state baseball champion Columbia River opened its season with a 9-3 win over Mountain View on Monday.
Kian Siegel got the Rapids offense going with a two-run home run in the top of the first.
Zach Sims went 3 for 4, including a bases-clearing triple that gave Columbia River a 7-1 lead in the fifth.
Noah Coakes and Luke Jenisch combined to allow just four hits while striking out nine.
Lucas Wolfley went 1 for 3 with a run and an RBI for Mountain View (1-1).
Skelton’s big day lifts Woodland softball
Brynn Skelton went 4 for 5 with a home run and four RBI to lift Woodland softball to a 14-8 road win over Hoquiam.
Skelton’s three-run home run gave the Beavers an 11-6 lead in the sixth inning. She added an RBI double in the seventh along with an RBI single in the fourth.
Gracelynn Huffman went 3 for 5 and Ainsleigh Utter went 2 for 5, including a solo home run. Addi Christensen and Jolie Oathes also had two hits.

- Daniel Reyes, Mountain View boys soccer, scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over W.F. West.
- Alonzo Flores, Hockinson boys soccer, scored two goals in a 4-0 win over Woodland.
