La Center baseball rallied from an early four-run deficit to beat Seton Catholic 5-4 Tuesday in an early season clash between the Class 1A Trico League favorites.
Dalton Woods and Lucas Peterson each hit RBI singles in a four-run first inning for the Cougars. But La Center pitchers Austin Aseph and Houston Coyle allowed just one hit the rest of the way in the game at University of Portland.
After scoring one run in the third, the reigning Trico champ Wildcats took advantage of two errors, a walk and two hit batters to score four runs in the fourth.
Seton, which like La Center reached last year’s state quarterfinals, got a runner to second with one out in the seventh. But first baseman Wyatt Brannan caught a line drive and doubled off the runner in a game-ending double play.
Catabay has a day for Evergreen baseball
Ryno Catabay did about everything in Evergreen baseball’s 13-3 win over Hudson’s Bay.
At the plate, he went 3 for 5 with a two-run homer, a three-run double and seven RBI.
on the mound, Catabay struck out nine and walked one over 4 1/3 innings, He and Malachi Lewis combined to hold Hudson’s Bay to one hit.
Ridgefield softball outslugs Camas
The Ridgefield softball team improved to 4-0, collecting 20 hits in a 13-10 win over Camas.
Tava Whitlow, Charlie Harris and Madeline Beruguier all singled twice in Ridgefield’s nine-run 3rd inning. The Spudder brought 13 batters to the plate and took a 9-2 lead.
But Camas chipped away, pulling within 10-9 on Hayden Wiest’s two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. Wiest, Sophia Chambers and Jayda Peterson all had three hits as the Papermakers collected 15 on the day.
Brugier’s fourth hit of the day drove in Whitlow as Ridgefield added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh.

- Brookelyn Waddle, Kalama softball, scored three runs including the game-winner in the seventh inning of a 9-8 win over King’s Way Christian.
- Jocelyn Kender, Seton Catholic softball, went 2 for 4 with a home run and was the winning pitcher in a 14-1 victory over La Center.
- Sadie Vigil, Skyview softball, went 2 for 2 with a home run, a double and two RBI in a 17-0 win over Evergreen.
- Cayden Hulsey-Bible, Stevenson softball, went 4 for 7 with five RBI and two doubles in a 12-9, 19-9 doubleheader sweep over Castle Rock.
- Mackenzie Moore, Prairie softball, sent 4 for 4 with a three-run home run, a double and eight RBI in a 22-2 win over Hudson’s Bay.
- Kylie Killet, Kelso softball, struck out 13 while allowing just three hits and one walk in a 5-2 loss to W.F. West.
- Peyton Lalande, Mountain View softball, went 3 for 4 with four RBI and two triples while also striking out 10 as the winning pitcher in a 16-5 victory over Washougal.
- Cade Horrocks, King’s Way Chrisian baseball, went 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBI in an 11-0 win over Kalama.
- Hayden Ollmann, Camas baseball, went 2 for 3 with a double and four RBI in a 9-6 win over Kelso.
- Madsen Richardson, Hockinson boys track and field, won the 100 meters, 200 meters and long jump at a dual meet with Mark Morris.
- Lyla Taylor, Hockinson girls track and field, swept the distance races, winning the 3,200 meters, 1,600 meters and 800 meters at a dual meet with Mark Morris. Her 800 time of 2:31.55 was a personal best.
