Let’s catch up by reviewing last month’s rainfall around the area from your friends and neighbors. Bob Starr, Cougar, 12.24 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 5.74 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lakeshore, 4.16 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 5.77 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights,7.16 inches; Irv St. Germain, Prune Hill, 4.74 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 5.00 inches; Dick Lenahan, Meadow Glade area, 4.93 inches; and I had 4.79 inches in La Center. The difference between Vancouver’s lowest and highest temperature in February was 52 degrees. A low of 17 degrees on Feb. 12 and a high of 69 degrees on Feb. 27. It is not unusual to have such wide swings in temperature. Spring begins to compete with winter.
March began on a warm note until the 10th when the rain returned along with cooler temperatures. Vancouver is still 1 degree above normal with the average mean temperature so far this month. Rainfall is above average with 2.38 inches as of noon Monday.
St. Patrick’s Day had widely scattered showers, and I had one report of small hail. I didn’t see a rainbow, did you? We managed to get through the Ides of March and St. Patrick’s Day. What’s up next? Goodness, I almost forgot about spring. Since spring began March 1 for us weather folks it is finally time to validate it astronomically on Thursday at 2:01 am.
