Ever wanted to try a new sport alongside one of its best athletes?

Everyone has that chance this Saturday at Mountain View Ice Arena. A free sled hockey exhibition will be held with three-time Team USA Paralympian gold medalist Rico Roman.

The event starts at 1 p.m. with a public skate, with ticket proceeds raising funds for sled hockey activities. At 3:30, participants will be fitted with sleds before a free trial of the sport from 4 to 5 p.m.

The evening will conclude with a sled hockey exhibition game involving the Vancouver Rangers.

A Clark County resident, Roman won gold with the Team USA sled hockey team in the 2014, 2018 and 2022 Paralympic Games. The former Army Staff Sergeant was wounded by an improvised explosive device while serving his third tour in Iraq, causing his left leg to be amputated above the knee.

Saturday’s event is being presented in partnership with the Portland Winterhawks and Bridge City Inclusive Sports, a Portland-based nonprofit that aims to increase access to sports for athletes from underserved communities.

Mountain View Ice Arena is at 14313 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd. in Vancouver. For more information, visit https://mtviewice.com/sled-hockey.
