Letter: Support Battle Ground levy

As a grandmother with grandkids in the Battle Ground School District, I urge voters to vote yes on the April 22 school district levy.

Battle Ground has an outstanding school system that has been decades in the making. Taxpayers before us voted to fund our schools. But how schools are funded now was changed by the Legislature. The funding is broken into pieces, it does not fund the whole pie, just parts of school.

Defunding schools destabilizes the entire community. Businesses do not want to build or grow in communities with broken or inferior school systems. Fewer businesses means few tax revenues coming in.

If those opposing taxes want to really engage with the problem, become a part of the budget committee, contact your legislator and ask them to reinstate full funding, be a partner in the budget process, but do not create a movement to destabilize and take down a superior school district which has been decades in the making.

It makes no sense to punish the students, your kids and grandkids, like mine, when we all know it takes money to run community organizations. These taxes are nothing new, just a reissue of a commitment made.
