Battle Ground Public Schools and Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center received building awards from the Washington State Department of Commerce’s Clean Buildings Performance Grant, the department announced Wednesday.

The commerce department awarded $1.3 million to Legacy Salmon Creek and about $500,000 to Battle Ground Public Schools, part of $45 million in funding the department announced that it’d be distributing statewide.

The grants, given to 70 building owners across the state, are intended to enable building owners to make energy-efficient upgrades that support compliance with the state’s Clean Buildings Performance Standard, passed by the Legislature in 2021.

The commerce department said the grants, funded through the Climate Commitment Act, will support energy-saving retrofits, like installing LEDs, modernizing heating and cooling, implementing smart building controls, and developing compliance documentation.

The commerce department said in a news release that buildings account for a quarter of statewide greenhouse gas emissions.
