Trevor Rogen returned to the mound in the bottom of the seventh inning to save the game he started, leading the Castle Rock baseball team to a 5-4 win over Heritage in the title game of the Randy Myers Bracket of the Baseballism PNW Kickoff Classic Saturday at Heritage.
Rogen scored three of the Rockets’ five runs. But it looked like it might not be enough as Heritage looked ready for its second walk-off win of the day.
Braden Oster led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple and scored two outs later on a triple by Baron Graham, cutting Castle Rock’s lead to 5-4.
Rogen returned to the mound and got the Timberwolves to ground out to end the game.
Rogen was named the game MVP as the Rockets improved to 4-0.
“I’m proud of the guys,” Castle Rock coach Joe Bair said. “We’ve already won more games than we did all last year. But now the work starts. We have an important series against White Salmon this week that has big playoff implications for us.”
Earlier Saturday, Heritage beat Hudson’s Bay 4-3 in eight innings when Ethan Scott scored from third on an error.
In the consolation game, Tanner Koford went 3 for 4 with three runs, a double, triple and RBI as Bay beat Centralia 17-9.
In the Richie Sexson bracket in Ridgefield, Ridgefield rallied for a thrilling win over Fife to reach the title game, before the Spudders fell to W.F. West 13-2 in the final.
Against Fife, Ridgefield trailed 3-0 entering the bottom of the seventh before rallying for three to force extra innings.
In the eighth, Wyatt Hemmelman led off with a single and advanced to second on a groundout. Henry Wikstrom’s single to left scored Hemmelman with the winning run.
Also at Ridgefield, Noah Coakes and Ryan Chatham combined on a no-hitter as Columbia River beat Lynden 3-0 in the seventh-place game.
River fell to Othello 5-2 earlier Saturday. In the second game, Coakes struck out 11 over five innings. Chatham finished off the gem with two hitless inning, allowing just one walk.
In the Robert Ramsey Bracket at Mountain View, Battle Ground scored four runs in the eighth to beat Tahoma 7-3.
Collin McGowan’s two-run double was the big hit in the inning. McGowan finished 2 for 5 with two doubles and four RBI. Jayden Sivits went 2 for 3 with a home run.
In the Alan Embree Bracket at Mountain View, Nick Wilcox threw a complete-game shutout against Shelton, leading Mountain View to 4-0 win over the Highclimbers. The Thunder fell to Graham-Kapowsin 9-0 earlier Saturday.
La Center fell 4-0 to Graham-Kapowsin in the title game of the bracket.
Fort softball rallies for sweep
Alexa Meza and Angela Campos both stole home in the seventh inning, rallying the Fort Vancouver softball team to a 16-15 win over Washougal, completing a sweep of the Panthers.
Fort Vancouver won the opener 17-7.
Meza was 3 for 6 with five runs, a double, two home runs and eight RBI in the doubleheader. She also pitched 10 innings.
Zoey Highfill was 7 for 8 with six runs, four doubles and seven RBI in the doubleheader for the Trappers.

Jase Wong, Skyview baseball, went 3 for 4 with three runs, a double and RBI in the Storm’s 8-6 win over Bonney Lake.
Cade Lukens, Camas baseball, went 1 for 2 with two runs and three stolen bases in the Papermakers’ 11-2 win over Yelm.
Malachi Lewis, Evergreen baseball, went 3 for 4 and threw 1.1 hitless innings of relief to earn the save in the Plainsmen’s 6-5 win over Seaside (Ore.).
Paige Vuylsteke, Battle Ground softball, had two home runs, a triple and five RBI as the Tigers fells 11-1 to Sedro-Woolley and tied Port Angeles 8-8 at the Auburn Riverside Invitational.
