Heading east to escape the rain, the Clark College baseball team won two of three games last weekend over Blue Mountain in Pendleton, Ore.
A stellar pitching performance from Evan McGuire capped the road trip. The sophomore from Union High School threw a complete game as the Penguins took Game 2 on Saturday 11-1.
McGuire had 10 strikeouts, allowing six hits and one walk on 107 pitches. He also went 2 for 4 with two RBI.
Clark (5-6) opened with weekend with a 11-6 win on Friday that saw the Penguins score 10 runs in the top of the ninth.
Clark took advantage of three hit by pitches, one walk and one error in the inning. Landon Criste’s bases-clearing triple capped the rally as the sophomore outfielder finished with four RBI.
Clark dropped the opener on Saturday 10-5 with Quentin Anguay going 3 for 5 with two RBI.
This week: The Penguins host Mt. Hood in a pair of doubleheaders scheduled for noon and 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Softball
Record: 2-10, 0-4, 8th in NWAC South.
Last week: The Penguins fell 16-0 and 8-0 to undefeated Lower Columbia on Saturday in Longview. A Sunday doubleheader against Highline was rained out.
This week: The Penguins take on Centralia on the road in a doubleheader Friday before hosting Grays Harbor for a doubleheader at noon on Saturday.
Track and Field
Max Ensinger and Jackson McQuain each earned top-five finishes in hurdle events last weekend at the Oregon Preview at iconic Hayward Field in Eugene.
Ensinger placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles in a personal-best time of 54.94 seconds. McQuain was fifth in a 110 hurdles in 15.05.
Lacie Westervelt also notched a personal best, placing sixth in the 100 hurdles in 1:06.72.
J’Quan Collins placed ninth in the 200 meters in a personal best of 22.18. He also was 13th in the 100 meters in 11.08.
This week: The Penguins will compete in the Pacific Open on Saturday in Forest Grove, Ore.
