Prep highlights (March 24): Pitching lifts unbeaten Camas baseball over Hockinson, 3-0

Charlie Barr and Ronan Loop combined on a two-hitter as Camas baseball beat Hockinson 3-0 in a pitcher’s duel Monday.

Barr allowed just two hits and two walks over five innings, striking out seven.

Loop retired six of seven batters he faced in relief as the Papermakers improved to 4-0.

Anthony Forner put Camas on the board with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. The Papermakers added two insurance runs in the sixth on Cade Lukens’ RBI single and Forner’s RBI groundout.

Graham Learning and Tyler Fehrer combined to allow just two base hits for Hockinson (0-5).

Wieczorek homer lifts Seton over La Center

Teddy Wieczorek hit a tiebreaking solo home run with two outs in the top of the seventh to lift Seton Catholic over La Center 4-3.

Jack Williams and Kolten Gesser combined to limit La Center to just one hit. Williams pitched into the fifth, when the Wildcats took advantage of three errors to score three runs. Houston Coyle delivered a two-RBI double for La Center.

Seton Catholic scored three runs in the second inning thanks to RBI singles by Lucas Peterson and Max Ackerman.

The two Trico League contenders split their early-season series with La Center topping Seton 5-4 on March 18.

Skyview softball faces Jesuit in interstate clash

The Skyview softball team fell 3-1 to Jesuit in a duel between high-ranked teams in their respective states.

The Crusaders of Beaverton, Ore., improved to 5-0 thanks to three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

From that point, Skyview ace Maddie Milhorn allowed just one additional baserunner. The Oregon-bound senior struck out 12 and allowed four hits and one walk over six innings.

After Taylor Lies tripled, Milhorn gave Skyview a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the top of the first.

Jesuit pitcher Makena Boynay allowed just four hits over seven innings to hand Skyview its first loss of the season.

Skyview began Monday with a 6-5 win over Tigard (0-4). Layla Royle hit a three-run home run as part of the Storm’s five-run third inning and Lainey Phillips went 3 for 3.

Stars of the day

  • Loreli Medina Cardenas, Heritage softball, went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, five runs scored and three RBI in a 25-10 win over Washougal.
  • Isaac Watson, Prairie baseball, threw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out nine and walking none in a 12-0 win over Evergreen.
  • Gavin Beckley, Woodland baseball, went 3 for 3 with two RBI in a 10-0 win over Kalama.
  • Paityn Mackin, Kelso softball, went 3 for 3 with a home run a double and two RBI in a 8-4 win over Camas. She was also with winning pitcher, striking out 14 over 6 2/3 innings.
  • Luke Nadwick and Cooper Schneider, Camas boys soccer, each scored two goals in an 8-1 win over Prairie.
