Trey Knight, a Cal State Northridge senior from Ridgefield, had an eventful past week.

It started with Knight being named NCAA Division I West Region indoor field athlete of the year. He then began the 2025 outdoor season with a bang, setting a school record in the hammer throw.

Knight won the hammer throw by 51 feet at the Trojan Invitational hosted by USC. His mark of 255 feet, 7 inches is the best in the nation this season and comes after he placed sixth at last year’s NCAA Championships.

Knight capped his indoor season by placing second in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14.

It’s the second consecutive year Knight was a first-team All American and capped a season in which he set a school record in the weight throw of 81 feet, 7.25 inches.

Here are other standout performances by collegiate athletes from Clark County:

  • Jordan Chiles, UCLA gymnastics, scored a perfect 10 on the floor exercise to help the Bruins win the Big Ten title. It’s the third time Chiles has scored a perfect 10 this season and helped UCLA set a Big Ten meet record with 198.450 points.
  • Addison Harris, Montana State women’s basketball, the freshman became the first Camas grad to play in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. She played 21 minutes, scoring 2 points in the No. 13 seed Bobcats’ 71-51 first round loss to No. 4 Ohio State on Friday.
  • Hailey Ferguson, Warner Pacific softball, the freshman from Battle Ground hit her first collegiate home run on Sunday in a 9-5 loss to Eastern Oregon. The infielder has started 21 of 22 games this season and is hitting .245.
