Kylie Thomas blasted a three-run walk-off home run as Heritage beat Battle Ground 5-4 on Tuesday in a battle of teams that reached last year’s state playoffs.
Trailing 4-2, Heritage saw Skyler Jones and Jaila Ellis single to lead off the bottom of the seventh. Thomas, a sophomore catcher, then blasted a 1-1 pitch over the right field fence.
Ellis had 10 strikeouts and one walk, allowing five hits over seven innings for Heritage (4-1).
After allowing two runs in the first, Battle Ground pitcher Mika Concannon followed with five shutout innings. The Tigers (3-2) took a 3-2 lead with three runs in the fifth inning and added an insurance run on Seyah Lindersmith’s RBI double in the sixth.
Henthorn pitches, hits Mark Morris over Ridgefield
Makenzie Henthorn pitched a one-hitter and also hit a three-run homer as Mark Morris softball beat Ridgefield 4-2.
A recent Montana commit, Henthorn had eight strikeouts and one walk as the Monarchs won a clash between last year’s 2A GSHL co-champions.
Tava Whitlow and Charlie Harris scored in the top of the first for Ridgefield (4-1).
Mark Morris (3-0) scored all its runs in the bottom of the third, with Henthorn’s one-out blast on a full count being the decisive hit.
Columbia River baseball edges Skyview
Harrison Hoffarth pitched a two-hitter and Zach Sims singled home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth as Columbia River beat Skyview 2-1.
Luke Jenisch reached third base with no out, only to see the next two Rapids batters strike out. But Sims hit a hard grounder toward shortstop for his second hit of the day.
Hoffarth retired nine of the last 10 batters after Kyle Harker pulled Skyview even with an RBI single in the fifth.
Hoffarth had nine strikeouts and no walks, needing 86 pitches to go the distance for the Rapids (3-2).
Jacob Griffith and Jase Wong combined to allow just four hits for Skyview (2-2).
Evergreen clips Prairie, 2-1
Malachi Lewis singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as Evergreen baseball topped Prairie 2-1.
Held to one hit over six innings, Evergreen began the seventh with consecutive singles by Elijah Braker, Jeremiah White and Jayson Whedon. Ammon Livingston then drew a bases-loaded walk.
Ryno Catabay had 10 strikeouts, allowing four hits and no walks over seven innings. Evergreen (4-1) avenged a 12-0 loss to Prairie on Monday in each team’s 3A Greater St. Helens League opener.
Michael Rovig allowed one hit, one walk and struck out nine over five innings for Prairie (1-2).
