I used to think that the tax whining season mainly ran between Jan. 1 and April 15. But in recent years, especially since I moved to Washington and Clark County, I’ve noticed there seems to be no particular season for tax whining any more. Now tax whining seems to run all year long. People whining about income taxes, property taxes, gas taxes, liquor taxes, sales taxes, and others, I’m sure. Whine, whine, whine. Just like little children who don’t want to eat their peas.
I wonder how these people expect a civil society to function without a functioning government. Without roads, without air traffic controllers; without safe foods and medicines; without good schools; without help for disabled or needy veterans; without safe drinking water; without safe workplaces; without well-managed rangelands, forests, rivers and lakes; and without police and firefighters. Stating the obvious, this list could be much longer.
It’s probably too much to expect the whiners to just pay up and shut up. On the slightly brighter side, their whining is on the verge of becoming background noise just like the hum of traffic in the distance. Barely worth noticing.
