Letter: ‘Pope’ Trump is offensive

By David C. Schroeder, Vancouver
Published: May 9, 2025, 6:00am

At first, I thought the artificial intelligence picture of Donald John Trump as the new pope must have been produced by an anti-Trump buffoon. Instead, as I read on, sadly, I discovered it was shared by Trump and the White House itself, just as the Catholic cardinals are meeting to choose a new pope.

I was shocked, saddened and heartsick. Our president has just offended every Roman Catholic on this planet, not to mention evangelicals like myself. “Lord, have mercy.”
