WASHOUGAL – Second-grade teacher Doreen Wilsdon said Columbia River Gorge Elementary School students read “TIME for Kids,” a news source aimed at covering a variety of timely news topics.

The subscription was made possible by a classroom grant from the Clark County unit of Washington State School Retirees Association.

The “TIME for Kids” topics that captured Columbia River Gorge students’ interest included animals and habitats, science, technology, engineering, mathematics and how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Each year Clark County retired teachers and classified staff support public education with classroom grants and student scholarships.

This year, Clark County retired educators gave $400 grants to 20 teachers and librarians in Washougal, Vancouver and at the Cascadia Tech Academy.

In 2025-26, grants as well as student scholarships will be available in Camas and Evergreen, and in Hockinson, Ridgefield and La Center in 2026-27.
