‘We are expanding everything we do’: Vancouver Symphony Orchestra develops youth orchestra

54-member group started rehearsing in March, with first concert planned for Aug. 2

Against a backdrop of disappearing federal dollars for arts and culture nationwide, and budget cuts at state and local arts and culture organizations, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra keeps growing.

“We are expanding everything we do, at all levels,” Executive Director Igor Shakhman said.

Private donors, philanthropic foundations and community support are powering the organization’s growth.
