Community Lifestyle Enhances Quality of Life

Published: February 24, 2025, 4:35am

Adults ages 65-74 who are actively engaging in social connections are significantly more satisfied with life, according to a study by the National Institutes of Health. Living in a community like The Springs at The Waterfront nurtures that social need while also enhancing physical fitness, emotional well-being, and overall quality of life.

Residents, who started moving in this past October, are embracing The Springs at The Waterfront as their new home, and their stories highlight the unique benefits of this thoughtfully designed environment and the programs that people of any age could enjoy.

Finding the Place that Feels like Home

Moving to The Springs at The Waterfront was life-changing for Darrell and Rebecca Tucker. Originally from McMinnville, Oregon, the Tuckers searched for a community that offered top-notch amenities and a welcoming atmosphere. They were among the first residents to move into the community situated along the Columbia River.

“From the moment we stepped in, we felt at home,” said Rebecca. “The staff is incredibly attentive, and the residents are warm and friendly. We’ve built new friendships and appreciate the opportunities to engage us on an intellectual and physical level daily.”

The couple particularly enjoys the wide variety of wellness opportunities, which include access to electric bicycles, classes in the indoor pool, massage therapy sessions, and frequent strolls on the waterfront walking paths. Darrell appreciates the natural beauty surrounding the property where he walks their Scottish terrier, Tucker. “It’s the perfect blend of activity and relaxation,” Darrell shared.

A Feathered Fitness Partner

Resident Glenn Hess discovered that the layout of the 12-story community provides a perfect opportunity for fitness.

“I walk the stairs here every day,” he said. “There’s a tally sheet on the top floor where a bunch of us log how many flights we’ve climbed. It’s a fun way to stay motivated.”

Hess’ motivation is accentuated by perhaps the community’s most colorful resident: Jasper, an 18-year-old St. Thomas Conure parrot and Hess’ pet. She’s often seen perched on Hess’ shoulder as he roams the community, bringing smiles to other residents as well as staff.

“She’s my cheerleader,” Hess joked. “Having her around brings much joy, not just to me but to everyone who meets her.”

Hess said that living at The Springs at The Waterfront fits his upbeat and active lifestyle, whether he and Jasper are greeting neighbors while taking a vigorous morning stroll through the hallways or stopping by the reception desk to visit Jasper’s favorite staff member, Izzy.

“I’ve always believed that it’s important to keep moving as one way of staying young,” Hess said with a smile.

Where Everybody Knows Your Name

The Springs at The Waterfront offers various services and amenities to support resident vitality, from a choice of dining options and fitness programs to cultural events and personalized
health services. It’s a place where residents can live life to its fullest, be supported by a dedicated team, and make new friends who share similar interests. It’s no wonder that this kind of enriching, relationship-driven environment empowers a longer, healthier life, according to research conducted by the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care (NIC).

With abundant access to health and wellness opportunities and experiences combined with the community’s sustainable design, this vibrant new community empowers its residents (including the ones with fur or feathers) to thrive and live on their own terms.

As Rebecca Tucker aptly said, “It’s more than just a place to live. It’s a community, and for us, it’s home.”
