BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The state Department of Labor says Idaho’s population growth slowed considerably during a one-year period that ended in July, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates released this week.

The department says Idaho still has the 12th fastest growing population in the country.

The Census Bureau estimates the state’s population grew at a rate of 1.2 percent between July 2008 and July 2009, the slowest rate for Idaho since 2002.

Nationwide, Wyoming and Utah ranked at the top with population growth rates of 2.1 percent.

Idaho’s population was estimated at more than 1.5 million in July, an increase of 18,295 when compared to July 2008.
