NEW YORK (AP) — Dan Hurley has been hired as Wagner basketball coach on the same day his father learned of entering the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

The school announced the hiring on Monday. Dan Hurley comes to Wagner after nine years at St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, N.J.

He built the program into one of the nation’s best with a 223-21 record. He developed four teams that were ranked in the top five in the country.

His father Bob Hurley, a legendary high school coach, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this summer. Dan played for his father at St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, N.J.

Hurley replaces Mike Deane, who served as coach of the Seahawks since 2003. Hurley will be introduced Wednesday at the Spiro Sports Center.
