UPPER MONTCLAIR, N.J. (AP) — New York Red Bulls coach Hans Backe might coach the team this weekend despite recent gallbladder surgery.
Backe attended practice on Thursday and said he was considering flying to California on Friday for the Red Bulls’ game against Chivas USA on Saturday.
“I will be down at the bench during the game,” Backe said when asked if he would coach if he makes the trip.
Backe had the surgery Monday, three days after he missed a game against Seattle because of severe stomach pains. He was diagnosed with cholecystitis, which is caused by gallstones.
